HICOM (Histon & Impington Community) is a village based charity whose principal objective is the general community wellbeing of residents of all ages in the villages of Histon and Impington. Formed in 1998, HICOM operates the village Minibus and employs the village Older Persons Coordinator and assistant and the Mental Wellbeing Worker to provide signposting, assist with early intervention and prevention and increase awareness.
The minibus is principally used in the week to take older residents to exercise activities, various clubs, shopping trips, attend doctors appointments and outings. At weekends and in the evenings the minibus is available for general use by village groups.
With the increasing prevalence of those living with dementia and memory loss in our village community, it has been decided to establish a new part time role of a Village Dementia Support Worker to improve the quality of lives of those living with dementia and memory loss in Histon and Impington as well those of as well those of their carers and families.
Bereavement is a journey to be travelled and not an illness to be cured or a problem to be solved.
We are offering a six-week Hope Again programme which is open to all who are living with loss.
Recognising the need to improve our mental wellbeing, a project is underway to make Histon and Impington a mental health friendly community.
We have recently recruited a Mental Wellbeing Worker, Sefanit Inquai to take the project into its second year
