History

A bus on your doorstep

In 1976 the Red Cross first purchased a Minibus using a bequest by Miss Muncey to benefit the elderly in our community. This was operated and maintained by the Red Cross, and replaced using the bequest and funds from the Histon Feast in 1991.

HICOM (Histon and Impington Community Minibus) was formed in 1998 when the Red Cross ceased to operate the bus, and in 2001 HICOM purchased with National Lottery help the first of the now familiar Blue Buses to replace its ageing bus. Since then the HICOM bus has been in regular use for local charities, groups, and organisations.

In 2016 HICOM changed its name to Histon & Impington Community (HICOM) to better describe the activities of the charity within the community in addition to the minibus.

Over the years the minibus has travelled thousands of miles on short and long journeys benefiting hundreds. Our aim is to continue to support our community through the minibus into the future.
